For the second night running, Arrow were filming night shoots in DT Vancouver.
On the Wednesday, Stephen Amell and Paul Blackthorne were up on the roof of the Vancouver Art Gallery and yesterday they were at Robson square filming what I thought was a political rally.
Interestingly, they film on the rooftop of the Vancouver Art Gallery so much because it’s one of the easier roofs to get on to according to a crew member.
250 extras descended on to Robson Square, renamed Starling City Square, at around 9.30pm in order to go through what was happening in the scene. This was for episode ten of the second season, Blast Radius.
Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro), Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), Thea Queen (Willa Holland), John Diggle (David Ramsey) and The Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) were all at the location for the filming last night. That’s quite a lot of actors for one scene.
But boy, what a scene it was! The night began with a motorcycle stunt at the south end of Robson Square, above the Provincial Court of British Columbia. We have a video of this stunt that we will upload later. It involved Arrow on his motorcycle chasing after someone with a gun. Colton Haynes and Emily Bett Rickards were also there, but I didn’t see them in the chase scene. They did film some dialogue ofter they’d completed the stunt though.
Then it was on to the Robson Square Ice Rink to film the political rally. First the actors rehearsed the scene and did the blocking before the background performers arrived. Some were playing the part of press reporters and crew whilst others were supporters of Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro) and had buttons and placards with slogans like “Sebastian for mayor” and “Sebastian for Starling!”.
We were lucky enough to be standing feet away from all of this action next to the ice rink itself.
The scene involved some sort of explosion happening on the steps behind the crowd at the rally. Officer Lance (Paul Blackthorn) is there as security detail for Mr. Blood and escorts him away from the scene after the explosion.
There was also what looked like a television studio being set up there too, but we didn’t see any filming going on in there. Having said that, it was a long shoot for the cast and crew. Stephen Amell himself said that they would still be going until 5am when he camedown, in his Arrow costume, to greet a half dozen fans.
Colton Haynes and Emily Bett Rickards stopped to take pictures with some fans as they were returning to set from the catering tent.
