LEO Awards: People’s Choice Program

2014 has brought many firsts to the LEO Awards and the LEO Awards People’s Choice Program is another! As a public outreach initiative, the LEO Awards People’s Choice Program asks the citizens of BC to vote for their favourite shot-in-BC movie and TV show, highlighting the local and international productions that have had a starring role in BC, whether in front or behind the camera.

The Leo Awards: Amanda Tapping and Zak Santiago

The adorable Amanda Tapping from Sanctuary, Supernatural and many other shows took to the stage with Zak Santiago to present a couple of awards at the Leo Awards 2013.

We’d seen Amanda arrive earlier in the evening with Katrin Bowen, Director of Random Acts of Romance so we thought they might be presenting together. Sadly that wasn’t to be, but we did get the very entertaining Zak Santiago.

The Leo Awards: Michael Eklund accepting his Leo Award

I have been a fan of Michael Eklund for quite some time now, so when he won a Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Feature Length Drama for Errors Of The Human Body I jumped up out of my seat.

Michael gave a very sincere and touching speech whilst accepting his award. As he told the audience, making the movie changed him.

The Leo Awards: Jennifer Copping accepting her Leo for Becoming Redwood

Becoming Redwood had fourteen nominations at the Leo Awards, but unfortunately they came away with only one.

Jennifer Copping won the Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture for the 1970s-era coming-of-age story.

The Leo Awards: Richard and Jessica Harmon presenting

The first presenters of the evening were brother and sister duo, Richard and Jessica Harmon.

As brother and sister, they were comfortable with mocking one another. Jessica wanted a part on Continuum and wanted to know why Richard hadn’t got her a role yet. It was all very playful sibling rivalry.

The Leo Awards: The Chip Butcher Quartet sing about Continuum

During the intermission in the Leo Awards, The Chip Butcher Quartet came on stage and sung a couple of songs about some of our favourite TV Shows, first up was Arrow. Then, Chip went into the audience to get some suggestions for the next song.

Chip chanced upon table ten where Simon Barry and the rest of the Continuum cast were sitting. When Simon told Chip what show he was with, the audience started clapping and cheering. Obviously Continuum is a much loved show. However, Simon said the show was about ponies, which had the audience laughing.

Leo Awards: Amanda Tapping on the Red Carpet

The Leo Awards aren’t complete without Vancouver’s own Sci Fi Queen, Amanda Tapping. Last year, she presented the awards along with Robin Dunne.

This year however, Amanda was there as an award presenter. We caught her arrival on the red carpet just before we decided to head into the Gala Celebration.
