Yesterday I posted a small snippet of pictures that I took whilst on the set of Once Upon a Time at the Community Hall in Fort Langley.
I’ll post about what I saw being filmed and what I think was going on, but if you don’t want to know you should stop reading now.
This post will contain spoilers I guess.
I will at some point clarify VCF’s position on spoilers, but today is not that day.
I arrived in Fort Langley around lunch time to find that filming had already gotten under way. I was surprised as to how small the town actually was. I have never been there before and thought that the Storybrooke Town Hall, played by Fort Langley Community Hall, was much further away from the street than it actually is. Fort Langley is a great little town by the way, and if you ever come to Vancouver for a OUAT locations visit, this is a must for your trip.
The cast that I saw on set yesterday were Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Jared Gilmore, Tony Amendola, Keegan Connor Tracy, Michael Raymond-James, Eion Bailey, Sonequa Martin-Green and Jakob Davies. You’re probably familiar with all those names, but just incase you’re not, they play, David Nolan (Charming), Mary Margaret (Snow White), Emma Swan, Henry Mills, Marco (Geppetto), Mother Superior (Blue Fairy), Neal Cassidy, August Wayne Booth, Tamara and Pinocchio.
But wait I hear you say! Aren’t August Wayne Booth and Pinocchio the same person?
Yes, indeed they are.
The scene I witnessed yesterday had Eion Bailey with a green SFX hood on and motion capture dots on his face. The scene involved him lying on the ground in front of Storybrooke Town Hall whilst Jennifer Morrison, Jared Gilmore, Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Sonequa Martin-Green and Michael Raymond-James all look on. Tony Amendola is embracing Eion and Keegan Connor Tracy comes running up to them with her wand in hand.
There’s a bit of dialogue between then, then the action is cut and all the actors keep their places except for Eion, who trades places with Jakob Davies. Then filming resumes.
It was a pretty long scene lasting about 3 minutes.
I have to say, Tony Amendola looked really sad and upset and needed time to himself after the scene. Does August Wayne Booth revert to being the child Pinocchio by use of the Blue Fairy’s magic wand? The episode being filmed was episode 218 – “Selfless, Brave and True”, and the Blue Fairy told young Pinocchio that if he was “Brave, Truthful and Unselfish” he would always remain a real boy.
Security was pretty relaxed at the shoot, mainly because Rick was dealing with an unwanted guest I guess. But a PA did come up to me and tell me that I wasn’t allowed to take pictures of them filming. When I inquired why, he told me because it was illegal. I have to say, I laughed at this point. I’ve been to plenty of sets and have had advice from others that I am indeed allowed to take any pictures that I want. After all, I was on a public sidewalk and was only taking pictures in between takes as I always try and do when on OUAT sets. Rick then came over to me laughing as the PA had spoken to him about me taking pictures.
Anyhow, back to the scene… I’m confused as to why the writers have, if indeed this is what will happen, decided to kill Eion Bailey off. They’re not killing the character off, just the actor who plays the older version. Is this so that Marco can have time with his son possibly. He has missed out on 28 years.
Or, perhaps they bought Eion back just to film these few scenes because the show’s creators had read about a crew member saying that he didn’t get on with the others and wanted to quash those rumours?
I guess we’ll never get to know the real reasons behind anything that the writers and creators decide to do. Another theory I have read is that they don’t want to get more negative mail and messages like they got when they killed off Sheriff Graham.
Changing adults to children opens a whole new can of worms for the show and I’ll certainly be keeping my eyes open for Dylan Schmid, who plays the young Baelfire.
Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for, a gallery of pictures from yesterday’s filming. Don’t forget that you can discuss Once Upon a Time on our new forums.
