As a public outreach initiative, the LEO Awards People’s Choice Program asks the citizens of BC to vote for their favourite shot-in-BC movie and TV show, highlighting the local and international productions that have had a starring role in BC, whether in front or behind the camera.

The Leo Awards: Michael Eklund accepting his Leo Award

I have been a fan of Michael Eklund for quite some time now, so when he won a Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Feature Length Drama for Errors Of The Human Body I jumped up out of my seat.

Michael gave a very sincere and touching speech whilst accepting his award. As he told the audience, making the movie changed him.

The Leo Awards: The Chip Butcher Quartet sing about Continuum

During the intermission in the Leo Awards, The Chip Butcher Quartet came on stage and sung a couple of songs about some of our favourite TV Shows, first up was Arrow. Then, Chip went into the audience to get some suggestions for the next song.

Chip chanced upon table ten where Simon Barry and the rest of the Continuum cast were sitting. When Simon told Chip what show he was with, the audience started clapping and cheering. Obviously Continuum is a much loved show. However, Simon said the show was about ponies, which had the audience laughing.

The Leo Awards: Once Upon a Time’s Beverley Elliott singing

The Leo Awards were a bundle of laughs last night with Brent Butt and Nancy Robertson at the helm to guide us, but a highlight was a surprise musical number by none other than Granny from Once Upon a Time.

That’s right, the wonderful woman we all know and love as Granny on the hit ABC TV Show, Beverley Elliott was there to sing a song about “Filming in BC”.

Richard Harmon

The Leo Awards: Richard Harmon accepting his award

Richard Harmon along with his sister, Jessica were the first two presenters at the Leo Awards last night and they were a fun pair. I’d love to see them take on the hosting duties at the Leo’s one year.

But that’s not what this post is about. Richard Harmon won a Leo Award at the Gala Ceremony that took place at the Westin Bayshore Hotel last night (June 8th, 2013) for his role as Julian Randall. The award was for Best Supporting Performance in a Dramatic Series.
