UPDATED: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland: cancelled?

Posted by

According to our sources, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will be cancelled as of January due to poor ratings.

Of course this is just a rumour right now until we get official confirmation from ABC. But it looks like the show will come to a premature end.

A lot of viewers have complained of bad CGI on this show, but I can’t say that it has affected my enjoyment of the show. I remember the days when CGI was exceptionally poor on TV Shows.

Thursday’s episode achieved a 0.9 Demo and 3.53 Million viewers compared to the premiere episode which achieved a 1.7 demo and 5.7 million viewers.

I have to say that I like the series and was hoping that things would pick up for it when the mother show, Once Upon a Time went on hiatus for three months.

As I said, until we get an official announcement, this is just a rumour.

UPDATE:
Adam Horowitz, the show runner and executive producer of the show has updated us about this news

I’m glad that we will get to see the entire season as I really enjoy the show. It’s must see TV in our household on Thursday. Having said that, filming and airing all the episodes doesn’t mean the show isn’t cancelled.

To be fair, it was only supposed to last one season anyway. It was written with a beginning, middle and an end.

The problem is that they scheduled OUAT-Wonderland opposite “The Big Bang Theory”, which is hugely popular and has some overlapping fantasy/scifi audience. They should have scheduled OUAT-Wonderland to air initially in OUAT’s time slot on Sunday’s during the Winter hiatus, then could have moved it to another time, once OUAT-Wonderland had a following. The OUAT-Wonderland audience would have then followed it to its new time slot.

I agree. I think it was originally intended to fill the void of the winter hiatus; it would have made more sense in that case. Plus, it’s true that the show was put in a slot where it competes with a lot of very popular shows, so it’s expected to do poorly. Maybe if they had saved it for the winter hiatus it would have done better…

I watched on hulu, no antenna reception where I live. I hope my viewership counts but I must say, yes Big Bang Theory is not a good slot for it to be going up against and will it be coming up against the return of Community as well? Was it airing also opposite Parks and Rec? If so, these are all high cult shows that do appeal to much of the same sort of audiences that are also highly likely to be catching up on the show they didn’t watch on hulu or dvr.

I like this show, it is getting better and I am quite certain that it will improve s it goes along, there is great potential and well hopefully it will at least get a satisfying ending.
